THOR

Thor is the Viking thunder god.

He is the biggest and strongest of gods, with a red beard and fierce red eyes.

He has iron gloves and a belt of strength. He also has a hammer called Miller (ON Mjölnir) which was made for him by the dwarf Brokk.

Thor
s house is called Thunder Flash, and it is the biggest hall among the gods. Thor lives there with his wife Sif, but he spends much of his time away killing etins in Etinhome. Thor rides through the skies in his wagon drawn by the two goats Tooth Gnasher and Tooth Grinder. The wheels of Thor's wagon rumble as they turn, making the sound of thunder.

Thorís day is Thursday.

Thor wields his hammer against the etins in lots of Viking myths.

The story of how Thor
s hammer was stolen is told in ‘Thor the Bride,’ Chapter 9 of Viking Myths: Stories of the Norse Gods and Goddesses.
